At the age of fifteen, Kunisada joined the famous art school of Utagawa Toyokuni, and his prints first began to be published around 1807 to great acclaim. He earned success producing woodblocks of a wide range of subjects, from Kabuki scenes and beautiful women to historical events. In 1844, he took the name of his deceased former master, Toyokuni, and today is perhaps best known as Toyokuni III. Contemporaries considered him one of the best print artists of his time, and his students Kunichika and Chikanobu went on to become famous artists themselves.
Each woodblock is beautifully double matted and framed using
acid-free, archival mats, and UV-filtering conservation glass. A certificate of
authenticity accompanies each print. If you'd like an image of the
framing, please call 734-663-2900 or e-mail sales@barclaygallery.com
